Government Agencies

Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral Center provides research information supplied by the U.S. government's National Institute on Aging.

FirstGov for Seniors is part of the federal government's portal, FirstGov. Operated by the Social Security Administration, this site offers news and information about many topics of interest. Health care, preventative medicine and prescription drug costs are covered, but so too are topics like protecting yourself from consumer fraud, planning for retirement and other non-health issues of aging.

Healthfinder is a Web service from the Department of Health & Human Services' Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. The information provided is not directed specifically at older people. Instead, there are links to most government operated Web sites related to health topics.

National Institute on Aging is an arm of the National Institute of Health, a U.S. Government agency. The NIA Web site contains a wide range of information on topics related to aging that would be of interest to older people and their children.

Organizations

Alzheimer's Association is the principal organization supporting research towards to effective treatments and ultimately a cure for this debilitating disease. The site has wide range of information that would be valuable for both Alzheimer's sufferers and their caregivers.

American Health Assistance Organization is a registered nonprofit organization that supports research into Alzheimer's Disease, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration, Heart Disease, and Stroke

Last Acts is a coalition of organizations seeking to improve care for people who are dying and give support to their families. Last Acts serves as a clearinghouse for sharing information and ideas.

Services

Care Guide Provides consultant services in the elder care field, much like we do, but the Web site offers a number of useful information resources.

ElderWeb is another privately operated Web site, the strength of which is the dozens of links to online resources it has assembler, as well as other pages of information.

SilverSneakers is a fitness program designed to add strength and flexibility and thus improve daily living for older people. Learn more about it here.
